Milwaukee, WI – The Super Hot Mod Unlimited Championship (SHMUC) series took to the track for the first time ever at Rapids International, the temporary street course at Rapids, USA. New was the theme since not only was this the inaugural race for the series but the course itself has been redesigned for the 2014-2015 season of events at the track. The increased length of two of the straightaways played right into the theme of the series – speed.

While most of the teams are still developing cars to be run in the newly announced series, Fitzlaff Motorsports as expected is already ahead of the field and pulling away. Mike Fitzlaff, CEO and number one driver dominated the night and set the bar high as the team to beat.

The opening heat race featured the father/son duo of Ev and Hiro Kamikawa taking on Dean Strom. In the opening half of the race it was all Kamikawa, the younger one in fact as Hiro pulled out to a two lap lead over the field. The second half was a different story as Strom figured out his Fitzlaff Motorsports ride and made up the distance on the Kamikawas and then some. When the checkered flag flew, Strom won the race with a four lap cushion. Hiro held off his dad to take second place.

The second heat race had a full pack of drivers with Dan Margetta, John Wiedemann, Fitzlaff and Mike Lack. This race was all about Fitzlaff as he finished the first half with a six lap lead and then increased that lead to ten over Lack at the finish. Wiedemann scored just enough laps to transfer to the feature with Margetta rounding out the field.

Two Fitzlaff Motorsports Corvettes, driven by Fitzlaff and Strom, were set to take on the Corvette of Wiedemann and the Datsun 280ZX of Lack. Again, Fitzlaff Motorsports showed that the rest of the field had work to do as Fitzlaff and Strom raced into the top two spots with Fitzlaff leading by a lap at the half way break. Lack and Wiedemann found themselves another six laps behind Strom. Fitzlaff put it to the field in the second half and cruised to a four lap lead over Strom, who battled handling issues but still put distance between himself and third place. Lack finished in the final podium spot with Wiedemann in fourth.

It was a great opening night for the series and teams not known as Fitzlaff Motorsports know they have more to be done. The series heads next to Badger Raceway on November 13th for round two.
